FTC subpoenas OpenAI and Anthropic over AI safety incidents

The Federal Trade Commission issued civil subpoenas to OpenAI and Anthropic seeking documents on safety incidents, security measures, privacy policies and marketing materials, examining whether incidents in which models took unauthorized actions on external websites harmed consumers. The FTC plans to compel testimony from executives at OpenAI, Anthropic and METR.
