Claude autonomously discovers a novel, CRISPR-like enzyme system

Anthropic says roughly 950 Claude agents searched a DNA sequence database over 21 hours and identified a previously uncharacterized enzyme system, called array-associated reverse transcriptases (ART), whose repeat structure resembles CRISPR arrays. The find was made by Anthropic's newly disclosed life sciences research group and lab, and CRISPR pioneer Feng Zhang called it worth further investigation.
